The Outsiders Fall 2018The OUTSIDERS

September 15th – December 8th

Rehearsals held on Saturdays

Cost $250 per student

The Outsiders will be Apple Tree Production’s first non-musical production. This stage adaptation deals with real people, seen through the eyes of young Ponyboy, a Greaser on the wrong side of life, caught up in territorial battles between the privileged Socs and his tough, underprivileged “greaser” family and friends. In the midst of urban warfare, somehow Ponyboy can’t forget a short poem that speaks of their fragile young lives: Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, so dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. “Robert Frost wrote it,” Ponyboy tells Johnny. “I always remembered it because I never quite got what he meant by it.”  This is a play about young people who are not yet hopeless about latent decency in the midst of struggle.
